Product Description
1. Chemical and physical properties
Chemical name: N-[N-(3,3-dimethylbutyl)-L-α-aspartyl]-L-phenylalanine-1-methyl ester.
Molecular formula C20H30N2O5.
Molecular weight 378.46.
CAS No. 165450-17-9.
Appearance is white crystalline powder, containing 4.5% water of crystallisation, melting point 80.9~83.4°C, solubility in water 12.6 g/L at room temperature.
2. Sweetness and taste
The sweetness is 7000~13000 times that of sucrose and 30~60 times that of aspartame, and the sweetness is pure without bitter or metallic taste.
Sweetness characteristics close to sucrose, but slightly after-sweetness, suitable for replacing part of the sucrose or other sweeteners to reduce costs.
3. Application fields
Widely used in beverage (8~17 mg/L), food (10~35 mg/kg), bakery (retain 85% activity after high temperature resistance up to 450℃) and medicine.
Approved for use in more than 100 countries worldwide, including sugar-free food, diabetes-specific food and caries prevention products.
4. Safety and Metabolism
Approved for use in the USA by the FDA (2002), the EU (E961, 2010) and China (2003), it does not require special labelling for patients with phenylketonuria.
The metabolites are deesterified neotame and trace amounts of methanol, which are not carcinogenic or teratogenic and do not cause blood sugar fluctuations.
